Dear Sterndale Bennett, ·
Thank you for letting us see a copy of Sir H. Seymour's despatch No..682 (5/13B/45) of the 20th June and enclosure about the proposal to appoint an Economic Liaison Officer to work with the American Army Headquarters. We have read this with interest, particularly the suggestion that this Officer is likely to be used by the Americans for liaison on general matters in addition to those for which he is nominally to be appointed and the reference to Hong Kong in paragraph 3B of Colonel Cowell's report. For our part we should welcome the early appointment of such an Officer and should be glad to have an opportunity of meeting him before he takes up his appointment.
Yours sincerely,
ba) √2 Gent
J.C. STERNDALE BENNETT, C.M.G., M.C.
